The rubber seal remains in contact with oil and air: even if the sump is closed, a small amount of air is always present, promoting material deterioration over time.
It can degrade due to contaminated oil: if the oil is not changed regularly or if there are DPF regeneration issues, the oil can lose its properties and accelerate the wear of the rubber seal.
If the rubber seal fails, the pump can no longer properly draw oil, causing a pressure drop and a high risk of engine damage.

How does the original system work and why can it cause problems?
As standard, Alfa Romeo uses a rubber seal positioned between the oil pump and the sump "suction tube" to maintain oil tightness. This component, although designed to last, has a weak point: it does not operate in a fully sealed environment.
The rubber seal remains in contact with oil and air: even if the sump is closed, a small amount of air is always present, promoting material deterioration over time.
It can degrade due to contaminated oil: if the oil is not changed regularly or if there are DPF regeneration issues, the oil can lose its properties and accelerate rubber seal wear.
If the rubber seal fails, the pump can no longer properly draw oil, causing a pressure drop and a high risk of engine damage.
